The room offers a broad introduction to the measurement and division of time in antiquity.

The path starts from a large armillary sphere, a didactic tool already used in the Greek-Alexandrian era which illustrates the first complete conception of the cosmos that gave a solid basis to the concepts of year, day and hour.

A large touch-screen will lead you to the heart of the ancient techniques of time measuring, completed by a faithful reproduction of the instruments that Claudio Tolomeo.

Described in the Almagesto: one of the most important texts of our culture, which those interested can further explore in a special section.

Claudio Tolomeo

The sections dedicated to time in the civil field follow, i.e. the fascinating theme of calendars and the division of the day by means of wall sundials and scaphes. Particular attention is paid to the astrolabe, an instrument of Alexandrian origin that the Arabs brought to the utmost perfection and which was also widespread in Europe.
